PHI – SCJ Pastoral Convention
Third part: “Toward Action”
Third part of the Convention is tempted to reflect, to pray, and to discover new insights, new ways, and new enthusiasm in our Dehonian parish work, as pastors with compassionate heart. Lived in community, our profession of the evangelical counsels is the primary expression of our apostolate.
As Dehonians, we do not separate our spirituality, our community life, from our apostolate; but we are called to realize more and more how they must be integrated. We learned also that Basic Ecclesial Communities are worshiping communities of faith discernment and action that try, in participatory way and under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, to put life and faith together into an integrated whole.
Then we noticed that at least 80% of the catholic people do not join at the Church activities, and we asked: “What to do?” One answer could be the permanent mission in parish. This one is practiced in Maranhão SCJ District, in Brazil, that consists in to visit all families of the parish 3 or 4 times every year showing our open arms and open heart, to accomplish the desire of Fr. Dehon: “Go to the people” who do not come to us.
The support for all activities of the parish will come from evangelized people that learned to share their time, talents, and goods.
We have decided to do our best as dehonians, as pastors with compassionate heart.
